Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric bookings open ahead of 4 November launch: what is confirmed, what is not
If you are holding ₹80 lakh to ₹90 lakh for an electric SUV, the question for the next four weeks is whether to book the Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric blind. Mercedes-Benz India opened bookings in the first week of October and will launch the car on 4 November 2026, assembled at its Chakan plant near Pune, but it has not published a price. Everything else a buyer needs to judge it sits in Mercedes' own specifications, and you can line it up against the rest of the segment in our comparison tool.
Mercedes-Benz India says the GLC Electric will reach India as a locally assembled car about six months after European sales began, which it calls the fastest it has brought a global model into local assembly. India gets one version, the GLC 400 4MATIC, on the standard wheelbase rather than the long-wheelbase body Mercedes builds for China.

Figures are Mercedes-Benz claims from Mercedes-Benz India's announcements of September 2026 and Mercedes-Benz Group's global GLC 400 4MATIC specification, accessed 8 October 2026. No figure here is India-certified.
715km is a WLTP number The 715km is Mercedes-Benz's WLTP claim for the international car. Mercedes has not published an ARAI MIDC figure for the India-spec GLC Electric, and the cycles do not convert by a fixed ratio. Treat 715km as the European rating until the homologation figure appears at or before launch. |
The price question
Mercedes-Benz India managing director Santosh Iyer has said the electric GLC will cost more than the petrol GLC, which he put at ₹76 lakh. Beyond that, Mercedes has given no figure. Local assembly matters here because a car assembled from kits pays far less import duty than a fully built import, so the GLC Electric should land well below the imported electric SUVs Mercedes sells in India.
Mercedes-Benz India has not published the booking amount, a booking count or a delivery timeline beyond the launch date. Buyers who book now are reserving a place in a queue with no price attached, which is normal for Mercedes in India but worth saying plainly. Our electric cars by price page shows where ₹80 lakh to ₹90 lakh would place it, a band our own reading of the local-assembly economics puts it in, not a Mercedes figure.
Charging and range in Indian use
The 330kW charging claim depends on a charger that can deliver it, and most public DC chargers in India are rated far below 330kW. On a 60kW or 120kW unit the GLC charges at that charger's limit, so the 10-minute figure is not something an Indian owner should plan around. Home charging on an AC wallbox will do most of the work, as our EV charging guide explains.

Price and rivals
In India, the GLC Electric will meet the BMW iX3 long-wheelbase only in 2027, when BMW has said it will arrive, which gives Mercedes a clear run through the festive season. In the meantime, buyers will measure it against the electric SUVs already in our top rated EVs list and against Mercedes' own petrol GLC on running costs.
The ThatsmyEV Take
We think Mercedes is doing the right thing in the right order: assemble locally first, then price. A locally assembled GLC with a 94kWh battery and 330kW charging is a stronger proposition than any imported electric SUV it has sold in India, and it is the car most current GLC owners will look at.
What decides it is the gap to the petrol GLC. If the electric car arrives within ₹10 lakh of the ₹76 lakh petrol model, it will take a real share of GLC sales; if it lands above ₹90 lakh, it becomes a niche car again. Santosh Iyer has admitted it will cannibalise some petrol sales, which suggests Mercedes expects the gap to be narrow.
For a buyer on 8 October 2026: book only if your booking amount is refundable in writing, and decide on 4 November when the price is out. If you need a car before Diwali on 8 November, this is not it; ThatsMyEV would look at what is in stock.
