There are two honest ways to answer which EVs are best in India: the ones people actually buy, and the ones that score highest in our independent reviews. This page gives you both.
First, India's best-selling EVs, led by the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XEV 9S and MG Windsor EV. Then our top-rated list by the TMEV Score, our editorial rating built from money value, safety and features.

Ranked by 2026 sales. The Tata Nexon EV is the long-time volume leader; the Mahindra XEV 9S topped the charts in early 2026; the MG Windsor EV is MG's breakout hit. Monthly positions shift, but these are the cars India is buying.

How we rate electric cars
The TMEV Score is a single number from 1 to 5, the average of three equally-weighted pillars. It reflects our editorial judgement from hands-on reviews, not sales, popularity or sponsorship.
We assess range in real-world terms, roughly 80 percent of the ARAI figure, and we flag the things that affect ownership but rarely make the brochure: service-network gaps for newer brands, and charger exclusions on some models. Our rated list only includes EVs we have actually reviewed, and it grows as we publish more. There are no paid placements.

Why each rated EV earned its score
A straight, no-fluff verdict on every EV we have scored, best to last.

The range champion of our rated set at ~546 km real-world, in a striking born-electric SUV that feels a generation ahead inside. Sharp value, just factor the INGLO home-charger exclusion and Mahindra's still-growing EV service.

A large, premium electric SUV with a triple-screen cabin and 656 km ARAI, priced well below a German rival. Strong on features and value; the same INGLO charger and service caveats apply as on the BE 6.

India's first born-electric seven-seater and the longest-range 7-seat EV (620 km ARAI), with a practical 2+3+2 cabin. The third row suits kids or shorter adults, but as a do-everything family EV it earns its score.

The longest-range EV under ₹20 lakh (585 km ARAI), in a distinctive coupe-SUV body with Tata's wide service network behind it. The sloping roof trims rear headroom a touch, but on value and range it is hard to beat.

A spacious, flexible electric MPV in six or seven-seat form, with a comfortable cabin and a properly usable third row. Boot space is tight with all rows up and BYD's service is still expanding, but for three-row space it is among the best.

Maruti's first EV plays to its strengths: efficiency, easy ownership and the country's largest service network, with a competitive 543 km ARAI. The feature list is sensible rather than flashy, which keeps it keenly priced.

A well-built, feature-rich SUV with a proven global record and ~417 km of real-world range. It gives a little ground on value to the sharper-priced Indian rivals, and BYD service is still growing outside the metros, but it is polished and dependable.

Keenly priced and generously equipped on paper. The score reflects the real unknown: VinFast is brand-new to India with a thin service and charging footprint, so ownership confidence is the main thing to weigh.
