Electric car launches before Diwali 2026: only two dates are confirmed by the carmakers

Between 8 October and Diwali on 8 November 2026, only two electric car launch dates in India come from the carmakers themselves: Volvo's EX90 and ES90 on 12 October, and the Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric on 4 November. Every other October or November EV date you may have seen, for the Mahindra BE.07, an electric Thar or a Honda EV, has no manufacturer statement behind it. If you are buying during Navratri, which starts on 11 October, the cars that matter are the ones already in our list of electric cars on sale.

This calendar separates what a carmaker has said, with the date it said it, from what has only been printed elsewhere. It is the version we will keep updating through the festive season.

Compiled from manufacturer announcements and executive statements, all checked 8 October 2026. A debut is a reveal, not necessarily the start of sales.

Dates you will see that no carmaker has given

An October 2026 launch for the Mahindra BE.07, often with a 13 October date, an electric Thar, and a Honda EV before Diwali are all in circulation. Mahindra's own plan says the BE.07 arrives in 2027, Mahindra has not announced a Vision T production date, and Honda's window runs to March 2027.

What the two confirmed launches mean for prices

Both confirmed launches are luxury cars. Volvo has not announced prices for the EX90 or ES90, and Mercedes-Benz India has said only that the GLC Electric will cost more than the ₹76 lakh petrol GLC. Neither will move prices for buyers in the ₹10 lakh to ₹30 lakh range, where most Indian EVs are sold. That segment's festive moves will come as offers on existing models, which you can line up in our comparison tool.

The Hyundai compact EV is the one launch in this window that could matter for mass-market buyers. Hyundai India managing director Tarun Garg has said it will debut before the end of 2026, ahead of the March 2027 date Hyundai gave at its investor day, and will start on imported battery cells from Svolt before switching to cells from Exide. Hyundai has not given a price or range. It will sit below the Hyundai Creta Electric.

Buying during Navratri and Diwali: three dates to keep in mind

11 October 2026 is the start of Navratri, the period in which dealers expect the year's heaviest deliveries. 8 November is Diwali. 31 December is the last day a car registers with a 2026 manufacturing year on its papers, which affects resale value more than most buyers expect: a car bought in the first week of January can carry a newer year than one bought on Diwali.

One rule also changed on 1 October 2026: new EV models must now carry an Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System, while existing models have until 1 October 2027. Every EV in this calendar that launches from 12 October will have it; a festive purchase of an existing model may not. Our top rated electric cars and EV sales tracker show which existing models are selling and holding up.

    The ThatsmyEV Take

We think this festive season is a buy-what-exists season for EVs under ₹30 lakh. The only confirmed launches before Diwali are luxury cars, and the one mass-market newcomer, Hyundai's compact EV, has a debut window rather than a sale date and no published price.

What will decide whether waiting pays off is Hyundai's price, not its debut. If it arrives close to the smallest Tata EVs, it resets that segment in early 2027; if it lands near the Creta Electric, nothing changes for budget buyers.

For a buyer on 8 October 2026: if you need an EV under ₹30 lakh before the end of the year, buy an existing model during Navratri and negotiate on festive offers. If you are spending ₹80 lakh or more, wait for the Volvo prices on 12 October and the Mercedes price on 4 November before booking anything. ThatsMyEV will update this calendar as each date lands.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Which electric cars are launching in India in October 2026?

The Volvo EX90 and Volvo ES90 launch on 12 October 2026, the only EV launch dates in October confirmed by a carmaker as of 8 October 2026.

Which electric cars are launching in India in November 2026?

Mercedes-Benz India launches the GLC Electric on 4 November 2026. No other carmaker has announced a November EV launch date as of 8 October 2026.

Is the Mahindra BE.07 launching before Diwali 2026?

No. Mahindra's plan of 5 May 2026 puts the production BE.07 in 2027, and Mahindra has not announced an October or November launch.

When will Hyundai's compact electric SUV launch?

Hyundai India MD Tarun Garg has said the compact EV, codenamed HE1i, will debut before the end of 2026, earlier than the March 2027 date Hyundai gave in 2026. A price and sale date have not been announced.

    When does Navratri 2026 start?

Navratri begins on 11 October 2026, and Diwali falls on 8 November 2026. Car dealers typically see their heaviest deliveries across this period.

Should I buy an EV during Navratri or wait for new launches?

For EVs under ₹30 lakh, there are no confirmed mass-market launches before Diwali, so buying an existing model on festive offers makes sense. Luxury buyers should wait for the 12 October and 4 November prices.

Does buying a car in December or January affect resale?

Yes. A car registered by 31 December 2026 typically carries a 2026 manufacturing year, while one bought in January may carry 2027, which can help resale. Check the manufacturing date on the invoice.

Do new EVs launched after October 2026 have AVAS?

Yes. Since 1 October 2026, every new EV model approved in India must have an Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System under MoRTH rules. Existing models must add it by 1 October 2027.
