VinFast VF MPV 7 India Launch on 15 April: Everything You Need to Know

India's electric vehicle market has been SUV-obsessed for a while now. Nexon EV, Harrier EV, XEV 9e, BE6, the conversation has been almost entirely about SUVs. Which makes VinFast's next move genuinely interesting.

On 15 April, VinFast is launching the VF MPV 7 across India. Prebookings are already open at ₹21,000. And for the first time in a long while, the electric MPV segment in India has something worth talking about.

    Who Is VinFast?

If you're not familiar with the name, here's the quick version. VinFast is Vietnam's largest automaker, backed by Vingroup. One of Southeast Asia's biggest conglomerates. The brand has been aggressively expanding globally, with operations in the US, Europe, and now a serious push into India.

They're not a startup. They're not a pop-up EV brand. VinFast has manufacturing scale, an expanding global footprint, and a product lineup that covers everything from small EVs to large SUVs. The VF MPV 7 is their play for India's family vehicle market.

    Why an MPV? Why Now?

Electric MPVs in India are almost non-existent outside the premium segment. The Kia Carnival EV sits at the top end, priced well out of reach for most family buyers. Below that? The segment is essentially empty.

India is one of the world's largest MPV markets when you count petrol and diesel vehicles. The Innova Crysta, Ertiga, and their variants have dominated family transport for decades. The shift of that buyer toward electric hasn't happened yet, partly because no one has built the right product at the right price for them.

VinFast is betting the VF MPV 7 can be that product. The 15 April launch will tell us a lot about whether they've priced it to win or just to participate.

VinFast VF MPV 7: Full Specs Breakdown

    Here's everything confirmed so far:

    Overall Dimensions: 4740mm x 1872mm x 1734mm (L x W x H) Wheelbase: 2840mm Battery Capacity: 60.13 kWh 0–100 kmph: Under 10 seconds Fast Charging: 10% to 70% in 30 minutes Prebooking Amount: ₹21,000 India Launch Date: 15 April 2025

Let's go through what each of these actually means for a real buyer.

The Wheelbase Is the Number That Matters Most

2840mm. That's the spec family buyers should be looking at first, before range, before charging speed, before anything else.

To put it in context, the Toyota Innova Hycross has a wheelbase of 2850mm. The Kia Carens sits at 2755mm. The Maruti Ertiga is at 2740mm.

The VF MPV 7's 2840mm wheelbase puts it firmly in Innova territory. Which means third-row passengers are getting actual legroom, not a punishment seat. For a family of six or seven that does regular long-distance travel, this is the difference between a usable car and an uncomfortable one.

60.13 kWh Battery: What Does Real-World Range Look Like?

VinFast hasn't officially confirmed a claimed range figure for India yet, but we can make a reasonable estimate based on the battery size and vehicle weight.

A 60.13 kWh battery in a vehicle this size typically delivers somewhere between 300–380 km of real-world range, depending on driving conditions, AC usage, and load. For city use, it'll be more comfortable. For highway family trips, you'll want to plan charging stops on longer routes.

The fast charging spec helps here. 10% to 70% in 30 minutes means you're adding a meaningful range in roughly the time it takes to have a proper chai and snack break. That's a practical charging experience, not a painful one.

Under 10 Seconds to 100 kmph: In an MPV

This one surprises people. An MPV doing 0–100 in under 10 seconds isn't something the segment has historically been known for. The Innova Crysta petrol does it in around 12–13 seconds. The Ertiga takes even longer.

The instant torque advantage of electric motors changes the equation completely. The VF MPV 7 will feel substantially quicker off the line than any petrol MPV at a similar price point, and that's a genuine quality-of-life improvement for city driving, overtaking on highways, and merging into traffic.

    Who Is This For?

The VF MPV 7 makes the most sense for a specific kind of buyer:

A family of 5–7 that currently drives a petrol MPV: Innova, Ertiga, Carens, and is seriously considering an electric switch. They do regular city driving with occasional highway trips. They have access to home charging or a reliable charging point near their home or office. And they want something that doesn't feel like a compromise compared to their current car.

If the launch price lands in the ₹18–25 lakh range, VinFast will have built a genuinely compelling case. If it comes in higher, the conversation gets harder because the SUV alternatives at that price point are strong.

    What We Don't Know Yet

The launch price. That's the single biggest unknown, and it will determine everything. VinFast has been known to price aggressively in new markets to build volume. Their global strategy has leaned into competitive pricing, but we'll only know for certain on 15 April.

Range figures for Indian conditions are also not officially confirmed yet. VinFast may announce ARAI-certified range numbers at launch.

Service network is another question mark for any new brand entering India. VinFast has been expanding its dealership footprint, but it's still not comparable to established players. This matters especially for MPV buyers who tend to keep their vehicles for 7–10 years.

    Final Take

The VF MPV 7 arrives at an interesting moment. The electric SUV segment in India is getting crowded fast. The electric MPV segment has almost no competition. If VinFast prices this right, the specs suggest they've built something genuinely capable. They could own a category rather than fight for a share in one.

The 2840mm wheelbase, 30-minute fast charging, and sub-10-second acceleration aren't incremental improvements over petrol MPVs. They're category advantages. The family that's been holding off on going electric because no one made the right MPV finally has something worth looking at seriously.
