Suzuki e Sky: 310km from a 26kWh battery, and what it says about Maruti's small EV
Suzuki's first electric kei car squeezes 310km from a 26kWh battery, but the catch is in Suzuki's own wording: 310km is a reference figure, not yet certified on Japan's WLTC cycle. The e Sky goes on sale in Japan in autumn 2026 and in the UK in 2027, and Suzuki has not named India as a market. It matters here anyway, because it is the clearest look yet at how Suzuki builds a cheap, small EV, which is the car Maruti Suzuki buyers have been asking for since the Maruti e Vitara arrived well above hatchback money.
The e Sky is the production version of the Vision e-Sky concept Suzuki showed at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2025, which it quoted at more than 270km. The production car's reference figure is 40km higher on the same exterior size, which Suzuki puts down to weight, aerodynamics and motor efficiency rather than a bigger battery.

WLTC is not MIDC Japan's WLTC cycle and India's MIDC cycle measure differently, and the e Sky's 310km is not even a final WLTC result. Do not set it against an ARAI figure for a car sold in India. ThatsMyEV does not convert between cycles. |
Why a kei car matters to Indian buyers
India's small-EV corner is thin. Buyers who want a city electric car under the price of a mid-size petrol hatchback have a handful of choices, and Maruti Suzuki, the brand that dominates small petrol cars, has none. Suzuki's e Sky shows the engineering approach it takes when it builds a small EV from scratch: a modest LFP pack, low weight, a 50kW charging ceiling that keeps costs down, and range earned by efficiency.
That approach suits Indian city use, where a 26kWh pack charged at home is enough for most weeks and LFP chemistry copes better with heat and daily full charges than nickel-rich cells. It is also the template that would let Maruti price an EV near the MG Comet EV and the small Tata EVs on our EVs under ₹20 lakh page.
What Maruti Suzuki has and has not said
Maruti Suzuki has not announced an e Sky for India or a production date for any small EV, and Suzuki has confirmed only Japan and the UK. The kei body would also need changes for India, because Indian crash and pedestrian rules and buyers' expectations of a five-seat cabin differ from Japan's kei class. Any Indian small Suzuki EV is therefore likely to be a related car rather than the e Sky as sold in Tokyo, and that is our reading, not a Suzuki statement.

The ThatsmyEV Take
We think the e Sky is the most relevant small EV Suzuki has shown for India, even though it is not coming here as it stands. A 26kWh LFP car that claims 310km tells you Suzuki has learned to build range through efficiency, which is the only way a small EV gets cheap enough for Maruti's buyers.
What decides whether India gets anything like it is battery cost and localisation, not technology. The e Sky's hardware is modest by design; the question is whether Maruti can source LFP cells locally at a price that lets a small EV undercut a petrol hatchback on total cost. Maruti has not said.
For a buyer on 8 October 2026: do not wait for a Maruti small EV. Nothing has been announced, and a 2028 date in circulation has no Maruti statement behind it.
