A first in this segment
The Punch EV just got a serious upgrade. Launched on February 20, 2026, the facelifted Tata Punch EV brought bigger batteries, a refreshed design, more features, and, surprisingly, prices actually lower than the outgoing model by around ₹2.5 to 3 lakh. For a car that was already the value benchmark in its segment, this is a significant move.
Here's everything you need to know.
Battery & Range (What’s New)
The 30 kWh and 40 kWh batteries are wired to a front-mounted electric motor producing 88 hp in the 30 kWh guise and 129 hp in the 40 kWh variants. ARAI-rated range stands at 365 km and 468 km, respectively.
The real-world number that matters: Tata claims a C75 real-world range of approximately 355 km for the 40 kWh variant, meaning in 75th percentile driving conditions (AC on, city traffic, real-world speeds), you're getting 350+ km. For a car at this price, that's exceptional.
Charging on a 7.2 kW AC home charger takes 4.5 hours for the 30 kWh battery and 5.3 hours for the 40 kWh. Overnight charging is more than adequate for either pack.
Design & Exterior
The facelift brings subtle but effective design changes.
LED DRLs connected by a black strip, stacked headlamps in triangular pods, a redesigned front bumper, and connected LED taillights at the rear. The overall silhouette stays the same, compact SUV stance, high ground clearance, and clean lines.
Three new colour options: Bengal Rogue, Fearless Yellow, and Caramel join the existing four carried forward. The Empowered Oxide shade continues to be the one that looks best on it.
Interior & Features
The cabin gets a 2-spoke steering wheel, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, touch-based AC controls, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The new grey-and-white interior theme on top variants looks noticeably cleaner than the outgoing black-and-beige.
Other features across variants include cruise control, push-button start/stop, six standard airbags, electronic parking brake with auto hold, ESC, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
However, Tata has locked several useful features. 360-degree camera, blind-spot monitor, cabin air purifier, cooled glove box, ventilated front seats, LED fog lamps, and rain-sensing wipers to the top Empowered and Empowered+ variants. Keep this in mind when deciding which trim to go for.
Drive Modes & Regeneration
Three drive modes are City, Eco, and Sport, along with four regenerative braking levels, which give you meaningful flexibility in how the car behaves. Eco mode on the 40 kWh battery noticeably extends real-world range in stop-go city traffic. Sport mode makes the throttle response sharper and more responsive at traffic lights, slightly more fun to drive.
BaaS (Battery-as-a-Service) Explained
Under the Battery-as-a-Service scheme, the Punch EV starts at ₹6.49 lakh. You own the car but lease the battery at ₹2.6 per kilometre.
The math: if you drive 1,200 km/month, the monthly battery lease is ₹3,120. Over a year, that's ₹37,440 — plus your lower upfront cost. Works well if you want to minimise EMI, but do the 5-year total cost calculation before committing. For high-mileage drivers doing 1,500+ km/month, conventional ownership is typically cheaper overall.
Which Variant Should You Buy?
If your budget allows, go for the Punch EV Empowered or Empowered+. There's only a ₹30,000 gap between them, and that difference unlocks ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, connected LED taillights, and the blind-spot monitor.
If you're on a tighter budget, the Smart+ 40 kWh at ₹10.89 lakh offers great value. You get the bigger battery and decent essentials without stretching to the top spec.
Avoid the base Smart variant unless you genuinely don't need a touchscreen. It ships without an infotainment unit, missing Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and steering-mounted audio controls.
